About Cisar Turfgrass Services

John Cisar, Ph.D.

As a Professor of Environmental Horticulture at the University of Florida from 1986 – 2014, Dr. John Cisar focused on creating environmentally sustainable turfgrass management systems. Dr. Cisar’s research has identified optimal agronomic practices to provide superior performing sports turf systems, with less added nutrients, water, and pesticides. In 2009, Dr. Cisar was elected Fellow of the Crop Science Society of America. In 2011, Dr. Cisar was recognized by the Florida Golf Course Superintendent’s Association with the FGCSA Lifetime Service Award.

Dr. Cisar earned his B.A. from Rutgers University, his M.S. from Cornell University, and his Ph.D. from the University of Rhode Island. He has conducted research and extension outreach on nutrient management, water quality and conservation, soil water repellency, root-zone mixtures, cultivation, plant improvement, pest management, pesticide fate, nutrient leaching, and other environmental impacts of turfgrass management.
